Date Night Ideas to Rekindle the Romance in your Relationship
Every mommy has a mountain high to-do list and those lists have their own sub-lists; there is also having to make time for a social life, kids, eating, looking fab and sleeping. Where do you get the time to wash your hair; let alone the time to spend quality time with your significant other? I am here to tell you it is very possible, with some work, planning and scheduling…and it only will take you 5 minutes to get started.
Studies have shown that a couple that makes time for each other by going on dates stand a higher chance of staying together and being happy. This could be due to the time spent together rekindling that fire between each other. That’s the key, I had to find innovative and fun ways to rekindle the flame in my marriage before children took over your lives. The mammoth task of taking care of children wears you down in a few different ways:
- Physical and mental fatigue
- Sucks your time
- Many Moving Parts
How do you even start? I can remember when I started to notice the distance between me and my hubby. It just became a routine to wake up, eat, shower, drop off kids, come home, eat, sleep and repeat. I had to now put out that little extra push and find the time and means to spend one on one time with daddy dearest. Here is how it worked for me.
Make a Date Night
I implemented a date night and ensured we stuck to it was at least once a week and it didn’t even have to be at night. I just wanted it to be at least one time per week for at least 2-4 hours. Here’s the wowser our first date we had was in the car listening to music because we didn’t plan it well and we had no sitter which leads me to my next step.
Get a Sitter
This can be a little tricky, but sitters know other sitters. Once you have a friend with child care personnel you could ask them to refer you to another sitter. You may have to do a few interviews and a few observed work ethics to make a decision. However, the key is to find someone you trust and you are comfortable with to leave your kids with for a few hours. There are also online platforms you can use which work great like Care.com. When you do find a sitter, negotiate your terms and ensure that you make your needs very clear. So we are getting into it. Now the next step is where we fall down. Make a Plan
I am a bullet journal junky, I make spreadsheets, mandalas and lists… lots of lists I just love this planning and organizing part of life. You can view my bullet journal spreads here on Pinterest if you are so into it, but I digress. The point is to make a plan, a list of restaurants you want to try, attractions you want to visit, movies you want to see and so on. After creating the list, make a calendar and share access with your partner. Yes, yes I know it sounds tedious but this helped me with budgeting and anticipation for what’s coming next. You can also spice it up a little bit with the next step.
Make It Fun
This idea I got from another mom and I think it ROCKS! She and her husband actually have a date night bowl. They write down on bits of paper where they want to go and each week they take turns picking from the bowl. Whatever is picked is the date night activity. They have stuff like, walk in the park, spa day, games night, paintball party and even sex.
Sex Can Be a Date Too
Yes, one of the things in my Date Bowl is a date, time (and sometimes theme) of when to have sex. date night, Absolutely, I look forward to sex date nights because hubby goes ham with the romance, meals, flowers gifts, lingerie and of course the mind-blowing sex (or insert super expressive phrase you use for great sex). I don’t have to tell you about role play and costumes right….Great!
